How do I import the Dapper DOS project into PTW?

The following steps can be used for importing the Dapper DOS projects.

Note 1: If you want to use both of the Dapper and Captor project import for the same project in DOS version, it is recommended to start with the Import of the Captor DOS project first.

1) Copy the DOS project files (*.PF1, *.PF2, *.PF3, ...) to a temporary folder and try to keep the character length of the path low.

2) Make sure the folder and the copied files are not read only.

3) Make sure the DAPPERLB.LB file exists in the project folder. If not save any file as DAPPERLB.LB.

4) Go to MS Windows "Start>Programs>Power Tools for Windows v..." and run the "DOS Dapper Captor Project Import" utility (you can also run the "Import.exe" file from the "bin" subfolder of the PTW installed directory) to see the following dialog box.

5) Hit Dapper button to import the Dapper DOS project.

6) Press the Browse button in front of the Project path and select the first DOS project file (*.PF1) and hit Open button.

7) Press the Browse button in front of the Library Path and select the first Dapper DOS Library file (daplib1.lib) and hit Open button

8) Press the Browse button in front of the Project for To Power tools for Windows and put a name for the new PTW project and hit the Save button

9) Now you are ready to import the project so just hit OK and you should be able to see the progress of importing the project. Note that the DOS library files will be imported to the new PTW project directory.

10) You may get the following error message caused by no swing bus record found in the project. This may happen if the project was created for short-circuit study only without any load flow study. So hit OK to continue with the Importing.

11) You will receive the following message when the project is successfully imported.

12) The next step is to import the multiple library files created by the above utility to a single component library file used in PTW version 4.0 and later. So go to MS Windows "Start>Programs>Power Tools for Windows v..." and run the "V3.x Libraries Import" utility (you can also run the "ImpPtwLib.exe" file from the "bin" subfolder of the PTW installed directory) to see the following dialog box.

13) Select the Unit Standard and the Frequency then press the small browse buttons to select the respective library files from the above created PTW project. You also need to define the destination existing PTW library file (like PTW.lib) to add these imported components. Then you can hit OK to start importing.

Note 2: If you have already imported the DOS Captor library files into a new library file then this new file can be a suitable destination for importing the v3.x library files too.

14) You may get the following messages if there are already the same component (s) and factors in the existing destination library file with the options to select. Hit the desired option button to proceed.
