Single Phase Arc Flash
There hasn't been any arc flash testing on single phase equipment from IEEE or other committees yet. But guidance from IEEE 1584.1 tells us to use equations from IEEE 1584 for all single phase equipment. The results will be conservative, but having an answer is better than having no answer at all. Ultimately, the engineer would need to use their judgment to accept the results or not.
It is also interesting that the title of 1584.1 (2013) is:
“IEEE Guide for the Specification of Scope and Deliverable Requirements for an Arc-Flash Hazard Calculation Study in Accordance with IEEE Std 1584.”
… while the title of 1584 (2002) is:
“IEEE Guide for Performing Arc-Flash Hazard Calculations”
This can be viewed as an interpretation that 1584.1 (2013) tells how to ASK FOR a report but 1584 (2002) tells how to DO the report.
